FOUNDATIONS
The Foundations program is the backbone to our system. Here we focus on techniques of Jiu Jitsu for a combative situation. The program covers both 7 standing and 7 ground positions applied for self-defense. Through this program, practitioners will develop an understanding for one on one combat, learn fundamental grappling techniques that apply to various positions of a fight, and build the physical awareness and skill in these positions.

FUNDAMENTALS
After graduating from the Foundations program, students will continue their practice in the Fundamentals program. Here, we focus on techniques that apply to the "game" or sport of Jiu Jitsu. In this program we encompass various techniques that apply to grappling against another trained opponent. This practice consists of technical discussion, drilling, and sparring in both takedowns and ground fighting. Here students will not only learn new techniques, but start to develop an understanding for the mechanics of the technique and how the body can use leverage to control another individual.

YOUTH PROGRAM
KATA presents Los Angeles’s premier youth grappling program which is the first to integrate both the arts of wrestling and jiu jitsu. Our aim is to lay the foundation for discipline, respect, critical thinking, and self-discovery for our youth through the introduction of martial arts. Our program is based on the 3 pillars of KATA: Movement, Leverage, Art.
MOVEMENT
Our program begins with building our students’ foundation of movement. The art of wrestling is historically known for building strong, resilient, and dynamic athletes who are well trained for all areas of fitness. In our program, we introduce students to basic biomechanics through games, drills, and exercises. Our goal is to lay the foundation of our students’ physiology to build strength, speed, flexibility, and adaptability as they grow and develop.
LEVERAGE
Once students develop a base level of fitness and proprioception, our program focuses on building their understanding of grappling technique that can be used and applied in combat. Jiu jitsu is widely known as the most effective martial art for self-defense for people of all ages and sizes. In our program we introduce students to the techniques of both jiu jitsu and wrestling to understand how to use posture, positioning, and leverage to both defend themselves and control another individual when needed.
ART
Unlike other sports, the goal of martial arts is not just winning or getting stronger, but for self-exploration and self-expression through movement in a combative form. Every child moves, thinks, learns, and problem solves differently. Through the structure of grappling training, and the discipline of our practice, our goal is to allow students to discover what skills are unique to them, as well as build the confidence in knowing that through persistence and repetition, they can learn and develop any skill they choose.

STRIKING
Open to members only, the Striking program focuses on the standing phase of combat. In this program, students will learn basic striking, clinching, and takedown mechanics as it applies to one on one combat. Through a series of drills, controlled sparring, and conditioning, students will develop their ability to control distance, defend against strikes, as well as use strikes as a means to close the distance and take an opponent down to the floor.
